In a shocking video released by Hamas, 24-year-old Israeli hostage Evyatar David appears visibly weakened and emaciated, digging his own grave inside a tunnel in the Gaza Strip. “I haven’t eaten for days,” he is heard saying while holding a food can, explaining that it must last him for two days. The nearly five-minute video was released with his family’s consent and has sparked international outrage and revulsion.

David’s family described the footage as “nightmarish,” while he appears skeletal like a living dead person. “We are forced to watch our beloved son and brother, Evyatar David, being deliberately and cynically starved in Hamas tunnels in Gaza – a living skeleton, buried alive,” the family stated. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the act as “cynical, degrading and deliberate abuse of hostages.” Holocaust survivor Naftali Furst, after watching the footage, said: “I knew hunger and terror in the camps. I remembered the absolute humiliation of human dignity.”

Additionally, Evyatar’s brother Elai appealed to Donald Trump to take action: “Silence is complicity. He is on the brink of death. Do something now.” David’s video was the second within the week, following one featuring fellow hostage Rom Braslavsky, confirming the desperation of survivors and the horror continuing behind Gaza’s tunnels.
Who is Evyatar David
The 24-year-old David has been in captivity since Hamas kidnapped him at a music festival in southern Israel on October 7, 2023. During its attack on Israel nearly two years ago, Hamas captured 251 hostages. David is one of 49 hostages who, according to Israel, are still being held in Gaza. This includes 27 hostages believed to be dead.
