Donald Trump left open the possibility of a presidential pardon for rapper Diddy, without however taking a clear position. In an interview he gave on Friday, August 1st to journalist Rob Finerty of Newsmax, the former US president was asked about related reports suggesting his possible intervention on behalf of the famous artist.
It should be noted that Diddy has been found guilty on two charges related to transportation of persons for prostitution purposes, while he has been acquitted of the more serious charges of sex trafficking and running a criminal enterprise. His sentence is expected to be announced on October 3rd, while his lawyers have already declared their intention to appeal.

Trump doesn’t rule out presidential pardon for Diddy
Specifically, during the interview Finerty asked Trump if he would pardon the rapper. Responding to his question, the American president said that he was once “very friendly” with Diddy and that “we got along extremely well and he seemed like a nice guy.” However, he then changed tone, explaining that ultimately he didn’t know him that well and that when he ran for office, the rapper was “very hostile” toward him. Donald Trump appeared conflicted by Diddy’s dual stance, admitting that the hostility could “cloud our judgment.” He also pointed out that no one has yet submitted a formal pardon request, and the White House does not comment on whether such a request is being considered.
Already since last May, Donald Trump had publicly stated that he would consider the possibility of granting a presidential pardon, saying: “I would be interested in the facts, especially if I think someone has been treated unfairly, whether they like me or not.” In the past, he had called Diddy a “good friend” and had publicly supported him, even on “The Apprentice” show. However, their relationship appears to have cooled after the rapper’s support for Joe Biden in the 2020 election.
@theneighborhoodtalk Neighbors, Trump is not happy with Diddy’s opinions on him while running for office! He’s considering pardoning him but claims his statements in the past make it very difficult. Thoughts?💭 #trump #diddy ♬ original sound – TheNeighborhoodTalk
The charges against rapper Diddy
Diddy has been held since September 2024 and, despite repeated attempts by his defense to secure his temporary release, even offering a $50 million bond, the request was rejected. After eight weeks of hearings, which included testimony from former partners, employees, escorts and police officers, the rapper was found guilty on July 2nd for transportation for prostitution purposes. The jurors did not believe there was sufficient evidence to convict him on the more serious charges.
The possibility of him receiving a pardon is being discussed at a time when the Trump administration is facing intense pressure over not releasing files related to Jeffrey Epstein, a former friend of the American president. The case has caused reactions within the MAGA movement ranks, with Trump even turning against Rupert Murdoch, filing a $10 billion lawsuit.
