The United States has proposed holding a trilateral meeting between Ukraine, Russia and the United States by the end of October at a technical level, as Volodymyr Zelensky has revealed. According to suspilne.media, the Ukrainian president made the announcement during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Kyiv. “Yesterday, for example, I spoke with the negotiating team, the American team. The American side is today in contact with Ukraine and Russia and is proposing that a meeting take place, in some form, by the end of October — a technical-level meeting in a trilateral format,” Zelensky stated.
Kyiv responds positively to the trilateral meeting proposal
The Ukrainian president clarified that as early as the previous day he had already confirmed Ukraine’s readiness to support such a proposal and to participate in talks by the end of October. “Actually, there’s no new information here. We are open to the Emirates or any other country the American side proposes,” he said.
According to Zelensky, Washington has transmitted or is about to transmit a similar proposal to the Russian side and is now awaiting Moscow’s response. “I know they will propose it to the Russian side as well, or that they already have. I don’t know the exact sequence of actions, and we will wait for their response. We are responding positively to the negotiations,” he added.
Zelensky’s previous meeting with Trump
On September 22, Zelensky met with Donald Trump on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly in New York. During that meeting, the American president stated, among other things, that he expects a deal to end the war between Russia and Ukraine to be reached. For his part, Zelensky reiterated that he is ready to meet with Vladimir Putin “at any time.”
Three days later, on September 25, the Ukrainian president announced that Washington had proposed a new round of trilateral talks involving Ukraine, the United States, and Russia in the United Arab Emirates, focused on the terms for ending the war.
At the time, he noted that no specific date for the meeting had yet been set. On that same day, the Kremlin confirmed that preparations were underway for a meeting in the Ukraine–US–Russia format.
