The German armed forces will deliver two Patriot anti-aircraft systems to Ukraine, under an agreement with the United States whereby Germany will later receive corresponding advanced technology systems in return. The announcement was made earlier by Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, who simultaneously called on NATO allies to immediately strengthen their assistance with additional systems.

“Thanks to the commitment of the US, Germany can initially support Ukraine with launchers and then with additional Patriot system components,” noted Pistorius, clarifying that the delivery of launchers will take place in the coming days, while additional components will be delivered within two or three months. “Through joint efforts of partners, these systems, which will require short-term and medium-term repair work, will be prepared and delivered to Ukraine ready for use,” the Defense Ministry announcement emphasized.
Germany has so far delivered three of its own Patriot systems to Ukraine
In exchange, Germany will receive priority delivery of latest-generation Patriot systems from the US, which it will finance itself. It should be noted that the German armed forces have so far delivered three of their own Patriot systems to Ukraine. However, Pistorius assured today that sending additional systems will not affect his country’s ability to contribute to NATO.
“In NATO-level discussions on supporting Ukraine with additional Patriot systems, Germany declared from the outset its willingness to offer system components. The prerequisite was that the American manufacturer would deliver new Patriot systems as soon as possible, so we could continue to fulfill our NATO obligations. This commitment from the US side stands. Once again, it is clear that Germany is by far the strongest supporter of Ukraine in the field of air defense,” Boris Pistorius added, emphasizing that with the solution now agreed upon, Germany takes the initiative to respond quickly to Ukraine’s very urgent needs. “We are taking the initiative once again and combining this delivery with an appeal to our partners to immediately provide additional systems,” the German Defense Minister said.
