Major concern has been caused by the powerful earthquake measuring 8.7 on the Richter scale, which occurred in the early morning hours of Wednesday (02:35 Greek time) off the coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula in eastern Russia, causing massive destruction, while a tsunami has already struck the coasts of Japan.
At the same time, tsunami warnings have been issued from Peru to Alaska, while it’s worth noting that, according to scientists from the geophysics service of the Russian Academy of Sciences, this is the strongest earthquake recorded in the region since 1952.
Already, waves 3 to 4 meters high have been recorded in certain areas of the region, according to an announcement by the local branch of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations. Videos that circulated show the tsunami reaching the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, shortly after the powerful earthquake.

In another video, the moment when the tsunami hits the shores of the small town of Severo-Kurilsk in the Russian archipelago known as the Kuril Islands is captured.
Indicative of the severity of the tsunami created by the earthquake are the images that circulated on platform “X”, which show whales that have been washed ashore.
