Geopolitical pressure is intensifying as Donald Trump hardens his stance against Moscow, setting a new, shorter deadline for progress in the peace process in Ukraine. The Kremlin, with a terse response, states that it “took note” of the statement, while insisting on continuing the “special military operation.”
Specifically, the Kremlin announced today (July 29, 2025) that it “took note” of the statement made by American President Donald Trump regarding Russia’s stance on the prospect of a ceasefire in Ukraine.
Trump set yesterday (July 28, 2025) a new deadline of 10-12 days for Russia to make progress toward ending the war in Ukraine or face consequences, emphasizing his disappointment with President Vladimir Putin regarding the war that has lasted over three and a half years.
The Kremlin, when asked about Trump’s statements from yesterday during a press briefing with journalists, made a brief statement.
“We took note of President Trump’s statement yesterday. The special military operation continues” declared Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, using the term that Moscow has adopted for the war it is waging in Ukraine.
“We remain committed to the peace process to resolve the conflict around Ukraine and secure our interests in the course of this settlement.”
Trump threatened on July 14, 2025, that he would impose new sanctions on Russia and buyers of its exported products within 50 days, a deadline that was set to expire in early September.
However, during yesterday’s (July 28, 2025) visit to Britain, he announced that he would shorten this deadline, saying: “There’s no reason to wait… We simply don’t see any progress being made.”
Trump, who has held six phone conversations with Vladimir Putin since returning to the White House in January, also stated that he “isn’t that interested in talking anymore.”
Peskov declined to comment on that specific statement by the American president.
