At least four children were killed in India, in Rajasthan state, and another 17 were injured, when a school roof collapsed, media reports said, while fears are expressed for dozens of people trapped in the debris. The tragic incident occurred around 08:30 a.m. local time at the government Piplodi school in Jalawar city in Rajasthan state in western India, while students were in their classrooms.
Indian television networks broadcast footage showing residents gathered around the school, while rescue teams deployed a crane to remove the debris. Classes were being conducted at the government school in Jalawar when the roof and part of it collapsed, Indian media clarified.
Some of the injured children are in critical condition, police officer Amit Kumar said, according to the PTI news agency and the Economic Times newspaper.

According to Indian network NDTV, officials said about 40 children as well as teachers and staff members were inside when the roof of the single-story building collapsed. A rescue operation is underway. In a post on platform X, Rajasthan state chief minister Bhajanlal Sharma commented on the “heartbreaking” incident.
“Orders have been given to the relevant authorities to ensure proper care for the injured children,” he noted.
