Donald Trump is escalating threats against Iran, warning of additional military operations against Tehran’s nuclear facilities if the country continues its uranium enrichment program. The US president’s new statement comes in response to revelations about the serious damage sustained by Iranian nuclear installations.
Trump confirms destruction of nuclear facilities
Through the Truth Social platform, the US president responded to statements by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, writing characteristically: “We will do it again if necessary!” Trump confirmed that American airstrikes caused extensive destruction to Iran’s nuclear facilities, as he had predicted.
Meanwhile, the American president sharply criticized CNN for its coverage of the operations, accusing the network of underestimating the effectiveness of American pilots who “eliminated” the strategic installations. CNN had presented initial assessments from US intelligence services, according to which the bombings delayed the nuclear program by several months without completely eliminating it.
Iran refuses to halt uranium enrichment
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi acknowledged in his Fox News interview that the country’s nuclear program has been disrupted due to significant damage. However, he emphasized that the extent of the destruction is still being examined by Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization.
Despite the destruction, Tehran maintains its unchanged stance regarding uranium enrichment. Araghchi categorically stated that Iran will not abandon this program, characterizing it as an achievement of Iranian scientists and a matter of national pride.
Diplomatic efforts amid escalating tensions
The Iranian foreign minister’s statements came ahead of a new round of negotiations between Iran and the three European powers (Britain, France, Germany) scheduled for Friday in Istanbul.
Indirect talks between Iran and the US, mediated by Oman, were abruptly suspended after the Israeli attacks of June 13th that triggered the 12-day war with Tehran. The diplomatic community is closely monitoring developments, as the escalation of threats may affect de-escalation efforts.
