Pakistani authorities proceeded to arrest one suspect following the circulation online of a shocking video that records the murder of a couple. The incident occurred in Balochistan province and concerns a man and woman who reportedly married despite opposition from their families. According to information, the decision for the killing was made by a local council the previous month. The case came to light and mobilized authorities when the related video went viral on social media, gathering the attention of thousands of users. The identities of the victims have not been released to the public.
One suspect was arrested, reported the chief minister of this province, Sarfraz Bugti, while charges are being filed against all those involved. In the footage, from which the victims and location of the murder were identified, people can be seen in the desert along with pickup trucks and other vehicles. Someone gives a Quran to the woman and she tells a man: “Walk seven steps with me, then you can shoot me“. The man follows her for several meters.

A police officer said the woman was not crying, nor did she ask for mercy. “You are only allowed to kill me. Nothing else” the woman is heard saying, speaking the local Brahavi dialect. However, it is not clear what she meant by the phrase “nothing else”.
The man following her then aims a pistol at her. The woman remains standing after the first two shots from close range, but falls to the ground with the third. More gunfire follows and in the footage a bloodied man can be seen on the ground, near the woman. Subsequently, men appear to shoot both of the dead bodies.
Reuters news agency was not able to verify the authenticity of the video.
Pakistan: Women are most victims of honor killings
It should be noted that the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan reported that at least 405 honor killings were recorded in 2024, condemning authorities for failing to stop such crimes. Most of the victims are women and the murders are usually committed by relatives who claim they are defending family honor. Conservative families do not allow their members to marry against their will.
