US President Donald Trump filed a lawsuit on Friday against News Corp, owner Rupert Murdoch, and two Wall Street Journal reporters in federal court in South Florida.
The lawsuit includes charges of defamatory libel, press defamation, and insult, as, according to Trump, the disputed article was “false, malicious and defamatory.”
“The letter to Epstein is fake,” Trump claims
At the heart of the case is an alleged birthday letter from 2003, which Trump allegedly sent to Jeffrey Epstein for his 50th birthday. The letter contained an indecent sketch of a naked woman (according to WSJ drawn by Trump’s hand) and the phrase: “I wish every day to be another wonderful secret.” Trump categorically denies writing it, calling it “fake.”
According to Trump, he had personally warned Rupert Murdoch, WSJ editor-in-chief Emma Tucker, and News Corp CEO Bob Thomson this week before publication, saying the story was false and warning of legal consequences.
