Another case of hantavirus has been confirmed, as a crew member of the ship repatriated to the Netherlands tested positive. The World Health Organization announced on Friday, May 22, that a crew member of the MV Hondius, where a hantavirus outbreak occurred, tested positive.
“The crew member had disembarked in Tenerife and was subsequently repatriated to the Netherlands, where they are now in isolation,” the WHO stated, clarifying that “a total of 12 cases and three deaths have been recorded so far.”
Since the detection of the hantavirus outbreak on the MV Hondius ship in late April, approximately ten cases of the disease have been recorded. Three people have lost their lives.
