New details are coming to light regarding the case of the death of Isak Andic, founder of Mango and one of Catalonia’s wealthiest individuals, who died after falling on a mountain trail in Montserrat, Spain in December 2024. His son, Jonathan Andic, became a suspect in his father’s death and is now charged with homicide. Authorities had arrested Jonathan, however last Tuesday he was released after posting bail of one million euros.
Mango: Called 112 six minutes after father’s fall
According to information reported by Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia, father and son had traveled to the Montserrat area on December 14, 2024, and parked their vehicles at the Cogmató parking lot, where the Les Feixades trail begins. This is a relatively easy but slippery route that connects the Salnitre caves with the Montserrat monastery.
According to the same source, the 71-year-old’s fatal fall occurred just ten minutes after starting the hike, when he fell into the void, succumbing to his injuries. According to the Spanish media outlet, Jonathan Andic allegedly made his first phone call four minutes after the incident, which was to his father’s former partner, Estefania Knuth, and two minutes later called 112 requesting help.
Two climbers heard his screams
About half an hour after the fall, two climbers who were in the surrounding area rushed to the scene when they heard Jonathan’s screams. According to sources cited by La Vanguardia, Jonathan initially believed they were police officers who had come to help him. The two men found that he was disoriented and tried to assist, with one of them taking Jonathan Andic’s mobile phone to explain to 112 the exact location where they were.
Subsequently, the climbers accompanied him back to the trail, where they met one of the first police officers who had arrived in the area.
However, the testimonies of the two climbers are not included in the case file, as investigators determined they had no direct knowledge of the incident, since they came into contact with the victim’s son well after the fall occurred.
Conversely, testimonies were recorded from a cave security guard, who reported seeing and hearing nothing due to her position, as well as from a local police officer who went to the scene after the accident.
The judicial investigation and contradictions in Jonathan’s testimony
The case took a new turn after judge Raquel Nieto Galván took over the investigation, assuming duties at the Martorell court in June 2025.
Unlike her predecessor, the judge reportedly adopted the police assessment that Jonathan Andic was not accurately describing what happened on the day of his father’s death.
The case file includes photographs of footprint traces at the fall site, as well as a technical report from the police mountain unit, according to which the specific traces could have been created deliberately to give the impression of slipping. Investigators also noted contradictions in the defendant’s statements, while the judge approved the seizure of his mobile phone.
It should be noted that Jonathan Andic was arrested on Tuesday morning at the house where he lives with his wife, Paula Nata. According to the report, he was informed by a police officer that he was being arrested for his father’s death and was given the opportunity to contact a lawyer. After posting bail of one million euros, he was released.
