A spectacular sight was captured by photographer Max Guliani during the thunderstorm that struck New York on Monday, July 14, causing significant problems and flooding. Specifically, as shown in the video posted by the 34-year-old, he managed to capture the moment when lightning struck the iconic One World Trade Center building.
He explained that as soon as he heard a storm was starting, he rushed to his favorite spot for recording such phenomena on the west side of Manhattan.
“I heard the thunder and knew I had to hurry,” he characteristically told the New York Post.
“I had heard that such phenomena happen frequently in Florida but in New York we only see this when it’s hot so I was excited for the rare phenomenon,” he added.
It’s worth noting that One World Trade Center is the tallest building in the US, making it accessible to lightning strikes, with AccuWeather data recording that from 2015 to 2020, lightning struck it a total of 189 times.
