Donald Trump is quite likely to be on the list of 287 candidates for the Nobel Peace Prize 2026. This assessment was made today, Thursday (30/4), by the secretary of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Christian Berg Harpviken.
Who is nominating Donald Trump
Among the candidates are 208 individuals and 79 organizations, Harpviken noted, while adding that many of these had not been nominated for the prize last year. “As I am new to the job, one of the things that has surprised me to some extent is how much the list is renewed from year to year,” Harpviken emphasized in his interview. “The Nobel Peace Prize is even more important in a period like the one we are living in,” he underlined. “Equally good work is being done, if not more than ever.”
The leaders of Cambodia, Israel, and Pakistan have stated that they have nominated the American president for the Nobel Peace Prize. In the betting odds for the winner, the names mentioned include Yulia Navalnaya, widow of Russian Alexei Navalny, the Pope, as well as the Emergency Response Rooms aid organization in Sudan. The winner of the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize will be announced on October 9, and the award ceremony will take place on December 10.
Nobel Peace Prize 2025 in Trump’s “hands”
It should be noted that Donald Trump praised the “wonderful gesture” of Venezuela’s opposition leader, just hours after their meeting at the White House, during which María Corina Machado presented him with the Nobel Peace Prize medal that was awarded to her in 2025.
“María gave me the Nobel Peace Prize for the work I accomplished. What a wonderful gesture of mutual respect. Thank you, María!” wrote the Republican president in a post on the Truth Social platform. Earlier, Venezuela’s opposition leader had handed Donald Trump the Nobel Peace Prize that was awarded to her, a move that sparked international discussion and reactions.
