The European Union prefers a negotiated solution with the US on trade, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated today, adding that the European Union will extend the suspension of its countermeasures against the imposition of American import tariffs until early August.
“The (anti-coercion) instrument was created for specific situations, while we have not yet reached that point,” she added, referring to an instrument that allows the European Union to move beyond traditional tariffs on products and impose restrictions on trade as well as services.
