A 30% tariff will be imposed from August 1st on products imported from the European Union to the US, American President Donald Trump announced in a letter posted today on his social media platform.
On Wednesday (9/7), the first “window” of the 90-day suspension officially closed on the implementation of the “sweeping” tariffs that Donald Trump had announced on “Liberation Day,” April 2nd. Despite the fact that great optimism was expressed during this interim period (which was extended until August 1st, though not considered the strictest of timelines), ranging from concluding “90 trade deals in 90 days” to sealing 200 deals, as the American President himself stated in late April when completing his first days in office, ultimately such outcomes were not confirmed.
Currently, the agreements that have been concluded are three: China (a framework agreement that “opened” the path for American companies to access so-called rare earths), the United Kingdom, and Vietnam.
