The US and Donald Trump reached an agreement with Iran for a mutual two-week ceasefire, approximately one hour before the scheduled attack on the Asian country’s energy production facilities and water treatment plants. In his announcement, Trump stated that he spoke with two Pakistani officials, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and General Asim Munir, and reached an agreement in exchange for the complete, immediate and safe opening of the Strait of Hormuz. He also mentioned that the US is analyzing a 10-point peace plan “with Iran and in the Middle East,” which they believe is a solid foundation for negotiations. He commented that both sides are close to agreement on all previous points of disagreement. Fox News reports that this particular development is not welcomed by Israel. The US President finally emphasized that it is “my honor” to be close to a solution to this long-standing problem.
