Iranians respond to Trump: Forming human chains with flags around critical infrastructure
Many of the protesters held flags of the Islamic Republic or portraits of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was killed in the initial strikes of the war launched against Iran by the US and Israel. In the western city of Kermanshah, photos from the semi-official Mehr agency showed protesters in front of a power generation unit holding banners with the message “Attacks on energy infrastructure constitute war crimes“. In the north, outside the Semnan facility, protesters reportedly chanted “Death to America – Death to Israel,” according to video published by the reformist newspaper Shargh. The Iranian government has organized support rallies during the war, however it remains unclear whether today’s mobilizations were spontaneous or organized.

Sirens sound in Israel
Alarm sirens sounded shortly after 6 pm in Israel for an Iranian missile attack, after the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) warned they had detected ballistic missiles launched from Iran. “The IDF detected missiles launched from Iran toward the territory of the State of Israel. Defense systems were activated to intercept the threat,” stated the message posted on the Telegram platform. About 20 minutes later the all-clear sounded, with no information about casualties so far. According to the Times of Israel, one ballistic missile fell in an uninhabited area, with no injuries reported.
Mediation efforts continue
Efforts to facilitate talks between the US and Iran continue, two Pakistani sources with knowledge of these discussions said today. One of the sources, a senior security official, said that Iran’s overnight strikes on Saudi Arabian industrial facilities linked to American businesses threaten to derail the talks. If Saudi Arabia responds to these strikes, the talks will end, he added. Potential retaliation could also drag Pakistan into the war, due to the defense agreement it has signed with Riyadh. The second source said that Iran is “walking a tightrope” and that the next three to four hours are critical for the future of dialogue. “We are in contact with the Iranians. Lately they show flexibility, that they could participate in talks, but at the same time they set tough conditions as a prerequisite for any negotiation,” said the first source. He added that Islamabad is trying to convince Tehran to start negotiations without preconditions. A spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry said Monday that the exchange of messages through mediators continues. Another source told Reuters today that Tehran rejected a proposal for a temporary ceasefire. Talks for lasting peace can only begin after the US and Israel end the strikes, provide guarantees they will not resume, and pay compensation for damages, the source said.
