The European Union appears ready to intervene in its own way regarding developments in the Middle East, making its presence felt in the Strait of Hormuz.
European Union foreign ministers will discuss a possible extension of the EU’s “Aspides” naval mission to the Strait of Hormuz, the Financial Times reported today, citing an official with knowledge of the ongoing discussions.
A joint European Union-United Nations naval mission to ensure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz in the Middle East “seems more likely” compared to the possibility of EU countries approaching Iran on a bilateral level, the official said, according to the FT.
