Israel is preparing for a large-scale ground operation in southern Lebanon, aiming to “dismantle” Hezbollah forces south of the Litani River, according to an Axios report citing Israeli and American officials.
The operation, as reported, envisions the occupation of the entire area south of the Litani River and the elimination of Hezbollah’s military infrastructure. This operation would be the largest conducted in Lebanon since the 2006 war.
“We will do what we did in Gaza,” a senior Israeli official told Axios. The operation was planned following Hezbollah’s attack against Israel, when more than 200 rockets were launched against the country, coordinated with actions by the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).
