A suspected member of the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas, who is wanted in Germany for supplying weapons and ammunition for attacks on Israeli or Jewish facilities, has reportedly been arrested by Cyprus authorities, according to an announcement by German federal authorities. The suspect, born in Lebanon and identified only as Kamel M. according to German privacy rules, was reportedly arrested at Larnaca airport on March 6 upon his arrival from Lebanon, according to Reuters.

The suspect is wanted in connection with transporting 300 bullets, according to prosecutors. It was not clear from the announcement, however, where the bullets originated from or where they were believed to be heading. “The operation served as preparation for deadly Hamas attacks on Israeli or Jewish institutions in Germany and Europe,” they noted.
Police also searched the suspect’s apartment in Berlin. According to reports, the announcement stated that once Kamel M. is extradited to Germany, a judge will decide on his detention.
Attacks against Jews and Jewish targets have increased worldwide since Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza, which was triggered by the organization’s attacks on Israel in 2023, Reuters reports.
