The US State Department has ordered its personnel to evacuate the American consulate near Adana, in southern Turkey, which is located a short distance from a NATO base. At the same time, it has ordered American citizens to leave “southeastern Turkey,” according to an announcement from the US embassy in Ankara.
“On March 9, 2026, the State Department ordered non-essential US government employees and family members of US government employees to depart US Consulate General Adana due to security risks,” the announcement states. “Americans in southeastern Turkey are strongly encouraged to depart now,” it further notes.
