Referring to Madrid’s decision to send a frigate on a defensive mission to Cyprus, the Spanish Prime Minister stated: “With the same determination that we say ‘No to war in Iran’ we are in solidarity and will help a European Union country that is a victim of this war“. “Among allied countries it is good to help when there is reason and to point out when mistakes are made, and this war in Iran is a huge mistake that we will pay for,” he said. “Faithful cooperation” should prevail over “rivalry” in relations between Madrid and Washington, said the Spanish Prime Minister who received harsh criticism from Washington for his stance toward the American-Israeli war.
Bilateral relations must be governed by “respect, spirit of faithful cooperation” and based on “equality,” within the framework of an “Atlanticism where international law and rules constitute the pillar and where cooperation prevails over rivalry,” he said during a joint press conference with Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro.
