China criticized today the “arbitrary” decision by US President Donald Trump to impose 50% customs tariffs on copper, which was announced yesterday, Wednesday, estimating that it does not serve “the interests of any party.”
“We have always opposed the excessive expansion of the concept of national security,” which Trump put forward as motivation for his decision, stated Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning.
“We have also always believed that the arbitrary imposition of customs tariffs does not serve the interests of any party,” the spokesperson added, while this additional tariff is set to take effect on August 1st, according to the US president.
