The Ukraine war escalates with a new Russian drone attack on Kyiv during the night of Wednesday to Thursday, July 10, injuring at least eight people. Local Ukrainian authorities warned of missiles heading toward the Ukrainian capital, while Russia killed three people in a bombing in Konstantynivka.

Eight injured in drone attack on Kyiv
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced via Telegram five casualties, with four being transported to hospitals. The Kyiv military administration later reported eight injured from strikes or shrapnel in six neighborhoods targeted in the Ukraine war.
Russian drones or their fragments hit residential buildings, vehicles, warehouses and office buildings. Military administration chief Timur Tkachenko called on residents to remain in shelters, emphasizing that the attack was continuing.
Ukraine’s air force reported that missiles were heading toward Kyiv from an eastern direction. Reporters from AFP and Reuters heard powerful explosions and witnessed interceptions in the city.
Dozens of residents found shelter in a metro station, where they were provided with mattresses and camping supplies while waiting for the end of the attack that signals the escalation of the Ukraine war.
Deaths from Russian bombing in Konstantynivka
Parallel to the attack on Kyiv, Russian bombing killed three people and injured another in Konstantynivka in eastern Ukraine. The city in the Donetsk region has been a target of Russian attacks for months, as the Russian army advances slowly westward.
Regional governor Vadym Filashkin called on civilians to make a responsible decision and leave for less dangerous areas of the country.
Largest attack since the war began
Ukrainian authorities confirmed that Russia launched the largest attack on Kyiv since the Ukraine war began in February 2022. The attack included:
• 728 drones
• 13 missiles
• Interception of most targets by Ukrainian defense
The announcements were made against the backdrop of escalating Russian attacks and diplomatic deadlock.
International summit for Ukraine support
In London, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron participate in a video conference summit for Ukraine. The summit includes Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
According to the Elysée, US representatives are expected to participate, as Washington hardens its tone by threatening new sanctions against Moscow and promising new military equipment deliveries to Kyiv.
American support in the Ukraine war
US President Donald Trump announced he would send more weapons to Ukraine, particularly defensive ones, and accused his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin of saying a lot of nonsense about Ukraine. Trump said he could send another Patriot battery to the Ukrainian army.
Sources from the US Department of Defense revealed that Washington is sending 155mm shells and guided missiles for artillery systems to Kyiv. This comes just days after the Trump administration announced suspension of some ammunition deliveries to ensure adequacy of US armed forces stockpiles.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is expected to meet with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit in Kuala Lumpur, at a critical moment for the Ukraine war.
