In an environment where information circulates at unprecedented speed and often without sufficient oversight, the need for reliable information, critical thinking, and strengthened digital responsibility is more urgent than ever.
The Digital Guide to Disinformation was created to serve as a comprehensive, credible, and practical resource for citizens. Its purpose is to clearly explain what disinformation is, which techniques are used to manipulate information and the mechanisms behind fake news and deepfakes. At the same time, it presents the initiatives and institutional measures adopted at European level to strengthen transparency and democratic resilience in the digital age.
Particular emphasis is given to practical guidance that can be applied in everyday life: how to verify the credibility of a news story, how to identify suspicious content, and how to make use of reliable European platforms for information and fact-checking.
The guide does not seek to restrict freedom of expression, but to empower citizens.
In a vibrant democracy, knowledge is power, and critical thinking remains the most effective safeguard against disinformation.
This digital guide was created for parapolitika.gr within the framework of the European Programme EuinFocus / “Our Europe” (EP-COMM-SUBV-2025-MEDIA), aiming to inform and raise awareness about the role and importance of the European Parliament. The guide is based on official sources from the European Commission, the European Parliament, the European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO), and EUvsDisinfo, as well as internationally recognized media outlets and research organizations specializing in disinformation, media literacy, and artificial intelligence.
