With “One Battle After Another” as the absolute star, the 79th BAFTA awards ceremony concluded, honoring the top achievements of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. The production secured a total of six awards, including Best Film and Best Director. Despite the film’s success, Leonardo DiCaprio, the movie’s lead actor, failed to win the Best Actor award.
Yorgos Lanthimos participated this year with his new film “Bugonia,” which received five nominations in major categories (Direction, Best Actress for Emma Stone, Best Actor for Jesse Plemons, Adapted Screenplay by Will Tracy, and Music by Jerskin Fendrix), but did not secure any awards.
The Best Actor award went to British actor Robert Aramayo for his performance in “I Swear,” Kirk Jones’ biographical drama based on the true story of a Scotsman with Tourette’s syndrome.
In the Best Actress category, Jessie Buckley won as expected for her performance in “Hamnet.”
The Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress awards were presented to Sean Penn for “One Battle After Another” and Wunmi Mosaku for “Sinners,” respectively.
“Hamnet” was named Best British Film, while the Best International Feature Film award went to the Norwegian production “Sentimental Value.” In the Best Animated Film category, “Zootopia 2” emerged victorious.
BAFTA 2026 confirmed the leading role of “One Battle After Another” in this year’s cinema season, with the evening closing with numerous accolades but also notable absences from the winners’ podium.
