Chilling are the details and descriptions from passengers in Italy who witnessed a man being sucked into a plane engine before their eyes. The man who appears to have deliberately thrown himself into an aircraft engine at Orio al Serio Airport in Bergamo, Italy, is 35-year-old Andrea Russo from Calcinate near Bergamo. According to the Daily Mail, he was neither a passenger nor a crew member and reportedly arrived at the airport in a red Fiat 500 which he then abandoned before running into the terminal building.
Subsequently, without having a ticket, the Mail reports that he headed to a restricted area toward the takeoff runway, before two Border Police officers on duty attempted to stop him. The 35-year-old, however, managed to escape, ran onto the runway and threw himself into one of the two engines of the Airbus A319 operating flight V73511 from Milan to Asturias.
Horrifying descriptions
“Suddenly, we heard a noise and a bang,” a Spanish passenger who was inside the plane at that moment told La Nueva España. “Some people saw something through the window and put their hands to their heads. They told us it was better not to look outside, because what was happening was very unpleasant,” she added. Addressing the passengers with a “disturbed” voice, the flight pilot informed them that a “very serious problem involving a person” had occurred.
The Mail reports that investigations were undertaken by police officers reinforced by members of the Rapid Response Unit and specialists from the Scientific Service of the Bergamo Police Department, while a prosecutor was also present. Police sources reported that the man had a history of “drug problems”.
