The Greek-owned vessel Eternity C has sunk in the Red Sea following an attack by Houthi rebels that resulted in the death of at least four crew members, according to Reuters. A rescue mission for the cargo ship’s crew was underway on Wednesday. Teams participating in the operation reported that four crew members were recovered dead.

“We will continue searching for the remaining crew until the last light,” said an official from the Greece-based maritime risk management company Diaplous.
The Eternity C was first attacked on Monday afternoon with naval unmanned aircraft and rockets launched from speedboats by Yemen-based Houthi fighters.
Two security sources told Reuters on Wednesday that the ship came under renewed attack on Tuesday night, forcing the crew to jump into the water.
The Iran-backed rebel group has not claimed responsibility for the attack.
One source said there were fears that some crew members may have been abducted by the Houthis.

The crew consists of 21 Filipinos and one Russian. The four armed guards include one Greek national.
The Eternity C is the second ship to be attacked in the Red Sea in the past week, following the attack on the cargo vessel MV Magic Seas, after months of calm in the region. This marks the first time since June 2024 that fatalities have been recorded from ship attacks in the Red Sea.
