An unspeakable tragedy unfolded on Tuesday morning (8/7) at Orio al Serio Airport in Bergamo, Italy, when a man lost his life after reportedly being sucked into an aircraft engine.

According to reports, the unfortunate man managed, under unclear circumstances, to enter the runway and began running toward an aircraft that was at that moment beginning to taxi. However, his action had a tragic ending, as the man was pulled into the aircraft’s engine, resulting in his instant death. So far, it has not been determined whether he was a passenger or an airport employee.
The aircraft, an Airbus A319, belongs to airline Volotea and was preparing to depart for Asturias in northern Spain. Following the incident, Bergamo airport temporarily suspended operations for approximately one hour.
