Two floating drilling rigs from Norway for deep-sea natural gas exploration have reportedly been purchased by Turkish state oil company TPAO. According to Turkish media reports, one of these will be deployed in Libya while the other will operate off the coast of Tasucu in Mersin, southern Turkey.
TPAO reportedly paid $245 million for each of the two vessels, which will initially undergo maintenance and inspection procedures after being transferred to Turkey before being deployed to their operational areas.
The news was published by maritime specialist website HaberDenizde.com, which reports that the floating drilling rigs named West Draco and West Dorado previously belonged to the fleet of Norwegian company Eldorado Drilling and will now join TPAO’s existing fleet of four floating drilling rigs.
Turkey already operates four floating drilling rigs bearing the names: Fatih, Yavuz, Kanuni and Abdulhamid Han.
