Poland is launching an investigation into possible connections between Jeffrey Epstein and Russian intelligence services, following a public statement by Prime Minister Donald Tusk. The announcement was made during a cabinet meeting and marks a new, particularly sensitive dimension to the international scandal that continues to cause political upheaval. Tusk stated that Polish authorities will form a special task force to investigate whether such connections existed and if they had potential consequences for the country’s security. As he emphasized, a wealth of information, evidence and commentary in the international press leads to suspicions that, in his assessment, can no longer be ignored.
Tusk’s statements raise political tensions
The Polish Prime Minister spoke of an “unprecedented pedophile scandal,” which, he said, raises serious questions about possible state involvement. According to him, the increasing likelihood that Russian intelligence services played a role in this case constitutes a matter of paramount importance for Poland’s national security. Particular emphasis was placed on his reference that, in such a scenario, there could be incriminating material against “many other currently active leaders,” something that, as he implied, would have serious international implications.
Silence from Russian side on Tusk’s statements
Both the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Russian embassy in Warsaw did not respond to written requests for comment. The absence of an official reaction intensifies the climate of uncertainty, as the issue takes on a clear geopolitical dimension.
A previous statement by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova also returned to public discourse, who had characterized the Epstein scandal as proof of “Western elite hypocrisy.” This reference adds additional political weight to the case, which appears to be shifting from the field of justice to that of international security.
