“Strong leader” is how Donald Trump described former Brazil president Jair Bolsonaro in a social media post, accusing the country’s authorities of launching a “relentless witch hunt” without him having committed any crime, other than “fighting for the people”.

Specifically, the American president wrote on Truth Social: “I am watching, as is the rest of the world, how they are treating Jair Bolsonaro – day by day, month by month, year by year. He is not guilty of anything, except for standing by his people”, while describing him as a “strong leader who deeply loved his country” and as a “tough negotiator in trade”.
At the same time, Trump reminded that Bolsonaro’s election was narrow and claimed that “today he leads in the polls”, while characterizing the prosecutions against him as a purely political attack. “It is nothing less than an attack on a political opponent – something I know very well”, he noted, referring to his own legal troubles.
It should be noted that Trump wrote in strong terms that he will closely monitor the “witch hunt” against Bolsonaro, his family and thousands of his supporters. “The only trial that should be happening is that of the voters – that is, elections”, he concluded, calling in capital letters: “Leave Bolsonaro alone”.
