A tragic incident unfolded at a cemetery in Britain on Saturday (5/7), when a stone cross from a gravestone became detached and crushed a four-year-old boy. Despite the superhuman efforts of rescue workers, the child could not be saved.

Specifically, 4-year-old Eli David lost his life when, under circumstances that remain unclear, a stone cross detached from a gravestone and crushed him at Royton Cemetery in Lancashire, Britain. Despite emergency services’ attempts to revive him, the boy died. Lancashire police stated that his death is not being treated as suspicious and that they will submit a file to the coroner “in due course.”

“We will always love and remember you until we see you again”
At the scene of the tragedy, his devastated family gathered, with the tragic figure of his mother standing silently at the grave, which has been flooded with tributes, flowers and toys. One of the tributes read: “I hope you’re playing with the angels and that super grandpa is giving you all the hugs and kisses we can’t anymore. We will always love and remember you until we see you again.”
Royton Town Council also confirmed that it is cooperating with relevant authorities to determine the circumstances of the tragedy. Local authorities are responsible for cemetery maintenance and ensuring their safety for visitors. The cemetery, covering approximately 17 acres, serves both Catholic and Muslim burials with over 21,000 graves.
