A deadly car accident occurred on a highway in Romania, near Timisoara, claiming the lives of 7 PAOK fans who were traveling to France. The road where the accident happened has been characterized by Romanian media as the “road of death,” as many accidents have occurred there. According to Romanian media reports, the accident happened around 1 PM in the village of Lagoj, near Timisoara, involving a collision between the van and a tanker truck, with two other vehicles also involved in the crash. According to opiniatimisoarei, six died instantly, the seventh victim died in the hands of doctors, two are in serious condition, while the 10th miraculously suffered only minor injuries.
First eyewitness accounts from the tragedy scene in Romania
An eyewitness told Romanian television: “The overtaking was extremely dangerous. He realized the truck was coming from ahead and tried to return to his lane, but collided and was thrown right on top of it. I only saw one man who got out of the car standing. The rest of the victims were on the road and in the field… They were in very bad condition,” the witness said.
“He was overtaking. He didn’t secure his movement. He had a collision with the truck that was ahead,” an eyewitness tells observatornews.ro. “While overtaking the tanker that was ahead, he realized he couldn’t complete the overtaking and hit the truck that was to his right. The truck braked. The truck behind me also braked, which was coming towards me and we all ended up in the ditch. I remember seeing one person who got out of the car on his feet.
