Donald Trump’s desire to acquire Greenland is well-known, and the American president has never hidden it, even during his campaign. A new episode following consultations and confrontations at Davos came Friday night from the White House, which posted a publication that sparked numerous reactions on social media.

The post shows the Republican president walking toward a mountain range covered with ice, where the Greenland flag is planted. With him appears a penguin holding the US flag, while the image is accompanied by the phrase: “Embrace the penguin.”

However, it wasn’t only the White House that “posted” content about Greenland. A similar photo with a paraphrased message was also published on X by the US Department of Defense Rapid Response Service, which shows officers, soldiers and sailors holding hands with a penguin and walking on ice with the phrase: “Be a warrior, embrace the penguin.”

And if the message sent by these specific posts is, by itself, enough to generate negative comments, the presence of the penguin intensifies the reactions even more. The reason? “Wrong hemisphere, there are no penguins in the Northern Hemisphere, there are no penguins in Greenland,” write most users commenting on the post, adding that “penguins live exclusively in the South.”

While some have replaced the penguin with a bear, which is “crushing” the American president.

Among the users reacting is a Danish MP and chairman of Denmark’s Defense Committee, Rasmus Jarlov, who writes, between serious and joking: “The message from the White House is clear: Trump belongs in Greenland as much as penguins do!”
