US President Donald Trump stated today, Friday, July 4th, that it may become known within the next 24 hours whether the Palestinian organization Hamas accepts the “final proposal” for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Trump also mentioned that he had a phone conversation with Saudi Arabia’s Defense Minister, discussing the possibility of more Arab countries joining the Abraham Accords – the normalization agreements with Israel that were signed during his first term.
Earlier, on Tuesday, Trump had emphasized that Israel has already accepted the terms for a 60-day ceasefire with Hamas, within the framework of which both sides would pursue the definitive end of the conflict.
When asked today whether Hamas has accepted this proposal, Trump responded: “We’ll see what happens, we’ll know in the next 24 hours.”
A source close to Hamas stated yesterday, Thursday, that the Palestinian organization requested guarantees that this proposal would lead to the end of the war in Gaza. Two Israeli officials noted that these details are still being worked out.
A previous two-month ceasefire ended in March when Israel resumed its military operations in Gaza.
Furthermore, Trump referred to the Abraham Accords when asked about reports transmitted late yesterday, Thursday, by American media outlets, according to which he met with Saudi Defense Minister, Prince Khalid bin Salman, at the White House.
“It’s one of the issues we talked about,” the American president commented. “I believe many people will join the Abraham Accords,” he added.
