A powerful earthquake measuring 6.7 magnitude was recorded in the marine area, 68 kilometers east of Baculin in the Philippines, with a focal depth of 10 kilometers, according to an announcement by the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The Philippines seismological service (Phivolcs) warned of possible serious damage in the area and emphasized that strong aftershocks are expected following the main earthquake.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) reported that no tsunami is expected to occur. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
“It wasn’t that strong, but people rushed outside,” noted Joy Monato, chief of police in the city of Hinatuan, in Surigao del Sur province (south).
