The Kremlin is going on the counteroffensive following an attack with an unmanned aircraft (drone) on a residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Novgorod region. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasized Ukraine’s denial of the attack – and stated that Western media are playing along with Kiev’s narrative. “Our military knows how and when to respond“ Dmitry Peskov conveyed today, Tuesday (30/12).
Kremlin: Hardens stance after Ukrainian drone attack on Putin’s residence
“It was a terrorist attack by Kiev aimed at derailing peace negotiations. The Ukrainian attack will harden Russia’s position in negotiations” the Russian presidency spokesman argued and stated that the attack was aimed at collapsing the negotiations. Peskov refused to reveal where Putin was located at the time of the attack, saying that in light of recent events such details should not be made public.
Peskov was asked if evidence would be presented for the Ukrainian attack, stating that “this is a decision for our military“. He noted that: “We see that Zelensky is trying to deny the attack, and Western media are playing Ukraine’s game“.
Lavrov’s statement
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told journalists on Monday that on the night of December 28-29, Ukraine launched an attack on the Russian president’s residence in the Novgorod region, firing 91 unmanned aircraft. All drones were destroyed by Russian air defense. There were no reports of casualties or damage, Lavrov noted.
According to Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov, Putin pointed out in a phone call with US leader Donald Trump that the attack took place “actually, immediately after” the US-Ukraine talks in Florida and warned that terrorist actions would not go unanswered. Trump later told journalists he was “angry” about the attack, adding that such moves could not facilitate peace talks. However, the Ukrainian president denies the attack occurred, accusing Moscow of wanting to derail peace talks with false claims.
Medvedev’s attack on Zelensky
Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev stated that Volodymyr Zelensky should hide for the rest of his life after the Ukrainian drone attack on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s residence.
Medvedev attacked – via a post on X – Volodymyr Zelensky, calling him the “Kiev bastard“, who should “hide for the rest of his worthless life“.
“The stinking Kiev bastard is trying to undermine the resolution of the conflict. He wants war. Well, now at least he’ll have to stay hidden for the rest of his worthless life” Medvedev wrote characteristically.
