Donald Trump expressed shock, according to Kremlin advisor Yuri Ushakov, over Ukraine’s alleged attempt to attack Russian President Vladimir Putin’s residence in the Novgorod region using 91 drones. Ushakov reported that Trump was informed about the attack on Putin’s country residence, though Zelensky has denied that such an attack took place.
Earlier, Russia’s Foreign Ministry stated that Ukraine attempted to attack Vladimir Putin’s residence in the Novgorod region and consequently Moscow’s negotiating position would be reconsidered. Meanwhile, the White House confirmed that Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin had a phone conversation.
White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt characterized the discussion between the two leaders as “positive” in a social media post. Trump had described these talks as “productive” and stated he would update the Russian president after his meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky in Florida yesterday evening.

Attack on Putin’s residence: Lavrov’s allegations and Ukrainian response
Diplomatic tensions are escalating as the Ukraine thriller continues, with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov claiming that Kyiv launched a drone attack against Vladimir Putin’s residence in the Novgorod region last night. Lavrov stated that Russia’s negotiating position would be revised to account for “the final transition of the Kyiv regime to a policy of state terrorism,” according to state news agency TASS.
The Russian Foreign Minister explained that targets have been identified, but insisted that Moscow does not intend to withdraw from the peace plan negotiation process. Lavrov also confirmed that no information about casualties or damage has been received and explained that 91 drones were destroyed.
Immediate denial by Zelensky
Zelensky’s response to Lavrov’s statements was immediate. “This is lies” declared Volodymyr Zelensky.
The Ukrainian president continued, saying that Russia wants to undermine the progress achieved between Ukraine and the US in peace negotiations.
Finally, he warned that Russia is preparing the ground to strike Ukrainian government buildings in Kyiv. He also called on the US to respond accordingly to Russian threats.
Later, Zelensky posted that this represents another attempt by Russia to undermine diplomatic efforts to end the war.
Zelensky’s full statement:
“Russia is at it again, using dangerous statements to undermine all achievements of our shared diplomatic efforts with President Trump’s team. We keep working together to bring peace closer.
This alleged “residence strike” story is a complete fabrication intended to justify additional attacks against Ukraine, including Kyiv, as well as Russia’s own refusal to take necessary steps to end the war. Typical Russian lies. Moreover, Russians have already targeted Kyiv in the past, including the Cabinet of Ministers building.
Ukraine does not take actions that can undermine diplomacy. On the contrary, Russia always takes such actions. This is one of many differences between us.
It is vital that the world not remain silent now. We cannot allow Russia to undermine efforts to achieve lasting peace.”
