At least three people lost their lives following an avalanche that occurred at a major ski resort in northern Spain, near the border with France. The tragic incident unfolded at an altitude of approximately 8,850 feet at the Panticosa ski resort, while one woman was rushed to the hospital with severe hypothermia.

The avalanche alarm sounded shortly before 1 PM. Initially, reports mentioned two victims, but the death of a third person was subsequently confirmed. According to the same sources, two other people managed to escape without injury.

Regional government president Jorge Azcón stated: “I am shocked by the news of this tragic mountain accident in Panticosa. I am canceling all my commitments to travel to the site.” The victims’ nationalities have not yet been announced, although it is known that one of the deceased is a woman.
Elite rescuers from the Civil Guard’s mountain search and rescue unit (Greim) have been mobilized and are operating in the area with the help of specially trained dogs. The tragedy appears to have occurred near the summit of Mount Tablato and affected a total of six people. The group was ski touring and was caught off guard before being swept away by the mass of snow.
