The Trump administration is planning to appoint an American general to head the international stabilization force (ISF) in Gaza, according to US and Israeli officials cited by Axios. This decision is seen as a further strengthening of American responsibility for the security and reconstruction of Gaza.
White House: “No American military presence on the ground in Gaza is planned”
The US has already established a civil-military coordination center in Israel to monitor the ceasefire and distribute humanitarian aid. Trump allies are expected to assume leadership of the Gaza Peace Committee, with Trump himself presiding. Nevertheless, White House officials emphasize that no American military presence on the ground in Gaza is planned.
Israeli officials report that US Ambassador to the UN, Mike Waltz, informed Israeli leadership that Trump intends to appoint a general to command the ISF. “Waltz mentioned that he knows the general personally and emphasized that this is a particularly serious individual,” stated an Israeli official.
Meanwhile, a White House official said that discussions have taken place regarding the composition of the ISF, the Peace Council, and a technocratic Palestinian government, “but no final decisions have been made or announced.”
The new restructuring will include the withdrawal of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the deployment of the ISF, while a new governmental framework will be created in Gaza under Trump’s administration.
