Scenes of panic erupted in southeastern Turkey following an explosion in a storage facility in the basement of the Sanliurfa courthouse, which was followed by a fire. The blast, whose cause remains unknown, injured one employee, according to local authorities.
Firefighters, police and specialized teams rushed to the scene, while security measures were implemented in the area. Governor Hasan Sildak told the Anadolu news agency that the courthouse incident is being thoroughly investigated.
“The small-scale explosion and fire at the Judicial Repository has been brought under control. One person was injured in the incident,” Sildak said, while Turkey’s Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc stated that the explosion occurred in a security deposit box and that the court clerk was injured.
