Kyriakos Mitsotakis spoke with Bloomberg News Editor-in-Chief John Micklethwait about Europe’s future, within the framework of the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in Singapore. The Greek Prime Minister emphasized that “Greece has made a remarkable comeback, producing primary surpluses, debt is improving, the growth rate is higher than the European average and we have proven that the crisis belongs to the past. We have demonstrated in Greece that we can have credible governments.”
“Some solutions are European but the difficult reforms are the national responsibility of each state. We have a stable government, we have a majority in Parliament, our elections will be held in 2027 and the governing party leads by several points. I am optimistic about the performance of the Greek economy,” he added.
“We have problems with the cost of living, but we implemented our commitments and the new budget will be voted on with relief measures that address high prices. Unlike other governments, our performance allows us to take support measures without forgetting that we were forced to impose difficult reforms such as in the pension system,” Kyriakos Mitsotakis added.

Mitsotakis: “No agreement can exist without Ukraine”
“We must draw lessons to make decisions,” the Prime Minister said, responding to a relevant question while clarifying that Trump’s plan to end the war has not been officially communicated to European leaders. “We have made it clear that no agreement can exist without Ukraine. We understand that as Europeans we must financially support Ukraine. I believe that every European country tries to address its own challenges, but it is up to each country to promote reforms so that there is common progress,” he said.
Mitsotakis: “Goal is to find a way to discuss maritime law with Turkey without tension”
In response to John Micklethwait’s question about Trump’s preferences for authoritarian leaders like Erdogan, the Greek Prime Minister emphasized that the relationship with the US is strong, as it is a strategic partner. “It is demonstrated that we can cooperate effectively as in energy. I believe that the goal towards Turkey is to find a way to discuss maritime law without tension. My responsibility is to strengthen the country’s defensive capabilities. We have a deterrent stance towards any country that could threaten our defense.”
Mitsotakis: “Greece can function as a bridge to Asia”
The Prime Minister referred to the constructive discussion with Singapore’s Prime Minister, highlighting common principles and values in free economy and rule of law. “I see that there is room for cooperation between Asian countries and Europe. I believe that Singapore has an important role and we would like closer ties with ASEAN countries as Greece can function as a bridge,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
