During the anniversary celebration of the Greek-Chinese Chamber of Commerce marking its 30 years of operation in Greece, Chinese Ambassador to Greece Fang Qiu delivered sharp criticism against the United States regarding the Port of Piraeus and Cosco operations. “The Port of Piraeus will always be the port of the Greeks. COSCO will continue to cooperate with Greek authorities,” the Chinese ambassador declared, continuing his criticism of the US by emphasizing: “Those who offered no assistance to Greece are now appearing. They underestimate Greece’s determination, which is decided by its own citizens.”
The Chinese ambassador to Greece continued: “Unlike certain countries that want to expand their sphere of influence, China wants to cooperate and does not engage in geopolitical maneuvers. It is evident that cooperation with COSCO has brought unfounded attacks. Some say the port should be sold and China’s footprint should be reduced.”
Chinese ambassador in Athens against US: “Hegemonic mindset that doesn’t aim for Greece’s prosperity”
“These statements prove a hegemonic mindset that doesn’t aim for Greece’s prosperity but for an arena of geopolitical rivalry,” the Chinese ambassador emphasized, accusing the US of hegemonic thinking.
“The Port of Piraeus has created thousands of jobs, contributed substantial taxes, and boosted Greece’s GDP,” the Chinese ambassador stressed at the event where Kostas Karamanlis was being honored. The Chinese ambassador added that “hundreds of electric buses from China are operating in Greece and Thessaloniki, enhancing the green footprint.”
