Who will stand alongside Alexis Tsipras at the presentation of his book “Ithaca” on December 3rd appears to be a particular concern for the former prime minister’s team, as the figures who will speak about that era are expected to send a message about the future. According to exclusive information, the former prime minister has various ideas, while his close associates have submitted two proposals.
He would ideally like to have some figures from European socialists by his side, from France and Germany, who played important roles during SYRIZA’s governance period. Ideally, he would want former EU Commissioner for Economic Affairs Pierre Moscovici alongside him, as well as German former President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz. It should be recalled that Pierre Moscovici, in July 2018, had pre-announced the end of the memoranda and the end of the troika, while a month later Martin Schulz had referred to Alexis Tsipras with particularly flattering words, saying that “one can trust Greece’s future to Alexis Tsipras.”
These two figures, or similar ones, are what the former prime minister would like to have by his side, although it seems very difficult as the dates don’t work for everyone. Thus, his associates have submitted two other proposals so he can send his message to society. This can obviously be done with the presence of figures who played leading roles in one way or another in the entire story.
Who could be at Alexis Tsipras’ side for his book presentation
One of the figures proposed to him is former Prime Minister George Papandreou, in whose hands “the atomic bomb exploded” that leveled the country and threw it into decline for ten whole years. The second name is particularly interesting – Greek banker Yannis Stournaras, who has much to say about the crisis years and how we emerged from it. Naturally, his associates want a New Democracy figure on the panel, though they haven’t found one yet. This proposal is considered particularly significant, as the protagonists of the story will speak, presenting their own truths. However, there have been no responses from those directly involved so far.
The third proposal involves the participation of SYRIZA government officials in the book presentation. Dimitris Liakos could be one of these officials, while George Chouliarakis, given his position, is considered very unlikely to appear alongside Alexis Tsipras. No one excludes the possibility that former President of the Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos could be on the presentation panel, having lived through the most significant aspects of this history. Of course, no one can rule out that the panel might ultimately include European figures, representatives from other parties, technocrats, and SYRIZA government officials. All of this, however, must be decided in the immediate future, as time for the book presentation has started counting down.
