Parapolitika.gr conducted an online opinion poll from Monday, November 4, through Thursday, November 6, regarding the potential creation of a new political party by Alexis Tsipras, with participation from over 3,400 people – readers of parapolitika.gr. The results reveal a divided public opinion, with strong contrasts in citizens’ views on the country’s political future.

The overwhelming majority of participants belong to older age groups, demonstrating the interest of more mature citizens in political developments. Specifically, 31% are aged 55-64, while 23% are 65 and over. The 45-54 age group follows with 22% and the 35-44 group with 13%. Younger ages have much smaller participation, with only 7% in the 25-34 group, 2% in the 18-24 group, and almost zero participation under 18 years old.

How much do citizens trust existing political parties?
When asked about their level of trust in existing political parties, 41% of participants said they trust parties “Little“, while 31% answered “Somewhat“. Notable is that 25% express “No trust at all“, demonstrating significant distrust from a substantial part of the electorate toward the political system. Only 4% declare “Much” trust, confirming the credibility crisis facing political parties.
33% support creation of “new parties“
Regarding whether the Greek political scene needs new parties or renewal of existing ones, opinions are almost evenly split. 36% believe in “Renewal of many“, considering that existing parties can transform. 33% support creating “New parties“, seeing the need for fresh political voices. However, 31% answer “Neither“, expressing deep skepticism and disappointment toward any form of political change.

Distrust toward new parties from old politicians
Regarding citizens’ feelings about creating new parties from known political figures, distrust dominates with 38% expressing this sentiment. Fatigue comes second with 35%, revealing exhaustion from continuous political realignments. Hope gathers only 10%, interest registers 9% and curiosity 8%. These percentages show that the majority of the public approaches such political initiatives with intense skepticism and exhaustion.

To the crucial question of how citizens would view a new party by Alexis Tsipras, 55% consider it would be a “Personal comeback move“, implying the initiative primarily serves the former prime minister himself. 25% see the move as “Doesn’t concern me“, showing indifference. Only 16% believe it would be a “New current of political change“, while only 4% would see it as “Left restart“. The results demonstrate that the majority of citizens question the motives and authenticity of such a political move.

“Saturated” is how 58% view the left political space
Finally, when asked if there is space on the left of the political spectrum for a new party, 58% answered “No“, believing the space is already saturated. 32% answered “Yes“, seeing room for new political forces, while 10% said “Don’t know“. This result suggests that the majority of citizens believe the left space is already covered by existing parties.
