European concerns over Turkey’s inclusion in the defense security funding program, SAFE, were addressed by PASOK MEP Nikos Papandreou, speaking to parapolitika.gr and highlighting Ankara’s lack of respect for international law principles.
“Obviously we don’t want Europe to fund Turkey’s defense industry because Turkey behaves hostilely toward us despite being a neighbor,” the MEP emphasized.
Nikos Papandreou: Turkey maintains casus belli, acts as enemy
“Turkey is a country that doesn’t respect human rights, lacks democratic processes, and acts as an enemy, maintaining casus belli against a neighbor. These are unacceptable conditions for us. Not only Greeks and Cypriots, but many other progressive MEPs and some conservatives agree with my position,” Mr. Papandreou clarified.
At the same time, he emphasized mental health issues, highlighting the need for prevention and specialized care, topics he advocates for in the European Parliament.
