PASOK president Nikos Androulakis’ director Giorgos Papavasileiou resigned after parapolitika.gr revealed his glowing comments about Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The morning revelation by parapolitika.gr about Nikos Androulakis’ new director Giorgos Papavasileiou, who in social media posts praised Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Nikos Dendias, and Grigoris Dimitriadis, caused intense reactions within PASOK. According to information, shortly after parapolitika.gr’s publication, phones between MPs and top officials were ringing non-stop, while real panic broke out among Nikos Androulakis’ associates, who couldn’t understand how such important information about the laudatory posts for the “blues” by Nikos Androulakis’ new director had escaped their attention.
Giorgos Papavasileiou’s statement
From 1974 until today I have been a consistent and unwavering member of PASOK supporting all its Presidents.
I have never distanced myself from our party’s struggle to return to its broad social and political boundaries, responding to the demand for political change. A struggle that now corresponds to citizens’ demand for a change of course and the defeat of New Democracy in the next elections.
The attempt by certain circles to turn parapolitics into politics is a losing game.
Because it is understood that 2 comments of mine from 5 years ago do not mean general recognition of a Prime Minister and a government, which disappointed even the most well-intentioned citizens and leads in corruption and unreliability, which through its policies wastes the opportunities of productive and creative Greece while intensifying social inequalities.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis received citizens’ trust twice. He will ultimately go down in history as the Prime Minister of wiretapping, scandals and the devaluation of democratic institutions.
Because I don’t want there to be any shadow over PASOK’s struggle, I submitted my resignation, which was accepted.
I will continue to be present in the fight for political change from whatever position I am asked.
