A heated argument between Socrates Famellos and Pavlos Polakis took place during SYRIZA’s Political Secretariat meeting. Essentially, the MP from Chania accused the SYRIZA president of being divisive following Socrates Famellos’s statement, who positioned himself in favor of alliance with Alexis Tsipras. “I am completely opposed to what you are saying,” Famellos responded. Pavlos Polakis reacted to Mr. Famellos’s speech, who emphasized that even after Alexis Tsipras’s resignation, the paths of SYRIZA and its former president cannot be opposing. However, the atmosphere was tense from early on. The subject of the Political Secretariat, after all, was the party’s position – a party that is very low in the polls – in relation to Alexis Tsipras.

The two blocks were already known, namely that of the SYRIZA president, who supports that the party should align with Alexis Tsipras, as this would create “a strong progressive pole”, and the other of Pavlos Polakis, Nikos Pappa and Rena Dourou, who believe that since the former party president resigned, they should turn the page.
